We care about our planet and about providing honest products to our local community.

Sustainable & Organic Practices

How do we care for our land? We use a No-Til farming practice which means we do not till the soil which disturbs the carbon or organisms that are working to build up our soil heath - which helps in the fight against climate change or the carbon crisis.

We make every effort to reuse with no “one and done” waste on our farm.

We use no synesthetic pesticides and help to manage our own little eco-system made up of beneficial pests and natural life cycles.

In fact, we don’t use fertilizers either, we prefer to use cover crops and plant diversity to return needed nutrients to our soil.

And while we’re not perfect - we strive to make a difference.

Climate Battery

Greenhouse growing with an earth battery is a sustainable and cost-effective way to grow crops year-round. An earth battery, also known as a climate battery, is a low-tech solution that uses the soil to heat, cool, and dehumidify the greenhouse.

The earth battery works by using the soil as a thermal mass to store excess heat collected during the day by the greenhouse glazing. The stored heat is then released back into the greenhouse at night when temperatures drop, keeping the greenhouse warm and cozy. This system also helps reduce humidity levels within the greenhouse, which can help reduce the potential for disease in crops.

By using an earth battery we save money on heating and cooling costs while reducing our carbon footprint. It’s a win-win situation for both us and our planet! 🌱🌞

Freeze Drying

We freeze dry alot of our products to make them shelf stable, and retain the nutrients in the foods. We use freeze dried products for our pet foods, veggies, and fruit grown on our farm or purchased from nearby farmers.

Freeze drying is energy intensive so to combat this we purchase carbon offsets.

Carbon offsets work by allowing us to offset our carbon emissions by funding projects that reduce or remove an equivalent amount of carbon dioxide from the atmosphere. This means that we take responsibility for our carbon footprint while supporting projects that help fight climate change.

In addition, our next investment in our farm infrastructure will be the addition of solar energy. Stay tuned for those details.

What’s the deal with carbon?

Here’s a short video illustrating the carbon cycle which has created the crisis we have on our planet today.
